Privacy
Onus collects the least it can, never links a rating to a person, and says so in plain words.
What we collect
- Your school email address, to confirm you're connected to that school as a student, staff member, or alum. It is stored by our sign-in provider and never shown to anyone.
- Which school you belong to and your role (student, staff or alum), and a random username assigned at sign-up that isn't shown anywhere.
- Which schools you have rated, so you can't rate the same school twice. Not your answers.
- Your rating answers, stored with no link to your account.
- Questions you type or speak to the Ask assistant, processed to answer you.
What we never collect
- Your name, student number, or phone number
- Written comments or stories about what happened to you
- Recordings of your voice (audio is converted to text and discarded right away)
- Advertising trackers or cross-site analytics
How your rating stays anonymous
- Ratings are saved without your account ID, so nobody at Onus can see which ratings are yours.
- Dates are rounded to the week.
- A school's student results appear only after at least 5 people have rated it.
- Each rating has a private code that deletes it. We store only a scrambled version of it, never with your account. The code itself is kept only in the browser you rated from, so you can delete the rating from My account on that device.
- Rated on another device? Save a backup code from My account on the device you rated from, and use it anywhere. If the code is lost, we can't recover it or find the rating, because nothing links it to you.
Who processes data for us
- SupabaseDatabase and sign-in
- ResendSending your sign-in code
- VercelHosting the website
- Google GeminiReading policies and answering your questions
- ElevenLabsTurning speech into text and answers into speech
- CARTOMap tiles
Please don't share personal details in the Ask assistant
Questions are sent to an AI service to generate the answer. Ask about policy, not about a specific person or incident.
Your choices
In My account you can change your school or role where your school email allows it, delete a rating made on that device (or anywhere, with its backup code), and delete your account. Deleting your account removes your email, school, role and username; your ratings remain because they can't be traced to you, so delete them first if you want them gone. Onus keeps no trace of a deleted account, not even a record that it existed. Clearing your browser's data removes the codes kept on that device.
